Design Description

For the purposes of making comparisons, our team felt it was best to design around the natural hierarchy within the Occupant Satisfaction Survey data — surveys contain categories, which contain questions, which contain responses. In this version of ArchMiner, the allowed comparisons of these hierarchical levels are summarized in the following table, then further illustrated below.

Comparison Resulting Charts
Survey x Question Shows the responses for a given question in a survey (shows same chart as reporting tool).
Survey x Response Shows the responses for a given question, with one chart for each response. Shows the proportion of people who answered each response for a given question. All the responses for one question add up to 100%.
Question x Response Compares a question with another question that is broken out to the response level. Shows the chart for the "question level" question in multiple instances. Each instance is filtered by the how the respondents who answered the "response level" question. All the responses for one question add up to 100%.
Response x Response Compares two questions, both broken out to the response level. Shows a single horizontal bar at each intersection that indicates the proportion of respondents who answered both questions in a particular way. All the responses for both questions add up to 100%.
Cross Survey For any one of the combinations above, show how the results compare to another survey.

The column header can display at the survey, question or response level. The row header can display at the question or response level, but not the survey level. A comparison against a category is not meaningful, therefore there is no such level in either header; categories are used only for navigation to the desired question. A header displays one level at a time. For example, if one question in the row header is displayed at the response level (explained further below), then all the questions in the row header must be displayed at the response level.
